LP Honors ‘Best of the Best’ in Safety
LP mills in Houlton, Maine; Roaring River, North Carolina; and Swan River, Manitoba, were named “Best of the Best” for the first phase of the company’s 2008 safety program.
The mills were selected for the award based on working injury-free during the contest period and for the safety programs they developed.
The Houlton mill, which produces LP® SolidStart® Laminated Strand Lumber, developed its safety program around the theme of “All Hands on Board for Safety.” The effort included an intensive focus on the cause and prevention of hand injuries.
The Roaring River mill, which produces LP® SmartSide® Trim & Siding, developed a safety program that included a plant-wide safety inspection and safety review that focused on the cause and prevention of hand injuries. The mill has worked more than 500,000 employee hours without a recordable injury.
The Swan Valley site, which produces LP® OSB sheathing, developed a safety program that focuses on eliminating hand injuries through a review of processes and procedures coupled with employee education.
“Each of these locations focused on hand safety and made a difference, not only for their employees but throughout the company by sharing their best practices,” LP Environmental Health & Safety Vice President Mike Blosser said.
