Girls Try on Non-Traditional Work at Tool ‘N Trades Conference

On May 3, 2006, more than 100 Maine girls attended a Tool ‘N Trades conference at Northern Maine Community College, sponsored by LP’s Houlton, Maine, mill. Hands-on workshops included building a toolbox in carpentry, trying out heavy equipment, building a rocket, and cutting plumbing pipe.

The goal was to show girls some of the opportunities in high-wage trade jobs and broaden their thinking about what’s possible for them.
